2019 IEEE Convene: Benefits of Taking Events Internationally - What About the Challenges?

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) – the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology recently held 2019 IEEE Convene in Washington, DC.  Tourism Vancouver was lucky enough to attend, in partnership with Business Events Canada and other Canadian convention bureaus. This event is held for leading IEEE scholarly conference organizers from all over the world, and can be attended by invitation only.  Virginie De Visscher, Director of Business Development, Economic Sectors from Business Events Canada, presented “Taking Events Internationally.”  This highlighted the potential benefits and challenges of taking events internationally, as well as providing tips for meeting planners and recommendations on how to work with Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

The purpose of this IEEE Convene meeting is to bring together thought leaders and decision makers to address conference leadership practices and discuss challenges in the conference landscape, envision the future, and launch new conference initiatives.  Tourism Vancouver, along with our local IEEE Vancouver Section Chair, Bob Gill, had the opportunity to attend this event and listen to keynote speakers.
