Dr. Jonathan Jedwab, Ph.D. Mathematics and Professor at Simon Fraser University, acted as a local ambassador and worked with the MIND Partnership to host two conferences which took place recently.  Dr. Jedweb loves the simplicity of combinatorics and found interest in his childhood fascination of numbers and puzzles.  A natural extension of this interest allowed him to utilize his talent and skills and make a career out of something he is passionate about.

On May 28, Vancouver welcomed 398 students and postdocs from all over the world to participate in the 4-day Canadian Discrete and Algorithmic Mathematics Conference (CanaDAM 2019) hosted at Simon Fraser University’s SFU Harbour Centre.  This was the seventh and largest of all CanaDAM conferences to date, having attendees from 29 different countries.  This conference involves theory and applications of discrete structures and strives to highlight the most prominent trends in the field.

Following CanaDAM 2019, Dr. Jedwab and his colleague, Dr. Petr Lisonek, hosted the 14th International Conference on Finite Fields and their Applications (Fq14) at SFU’s Harbour Centre on June 3.  This 5-day conference attracted 112 participating students and postdocs from 22 countries.  Topics of interest included theory, computation and applications.

We would like to send our appreciation to Dr. Jedwab for all of his hard work and involvement, the organizing committee and other program chairs for showcasing our beautiful city with two successful conferences.
