Vancouver Set to Host Woodrise 2025 Mass Timber Conference

International leaders in mid and high-rise timber construction will meet in Vancouver for the fifth edition of the Woodrise International Congress. From September 22-26, 2025, stakeholders will come together to collaborate and to learn from made-in-BC solutions that are advancing low-carbon construction.

Destination Vancouver and Woodrise

Destination Vancouver has played a critical role in facilitating pre-conference support, producing communications, and securing space at the Vancouver Convention Centre for Woodrise 2025.

Through the support of the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, and our connections with the office of Mass Timber Implementation, our team helped produce a video and microsite showcasing Vancouver as a leading destination and knowledge hub for Woodrise 2025.

Alongside key provincial stakeholders*, Michelle Taylor (Manager, Meeting & Convention Sales at Destination Vancouver) represented Vancouver at the Woodrise 2023 conference held in Bordeaux, France. There, Taylor spoke with attending delegates on the opportunities in Vancouver for business events.

*Michelle Taylor represented Vancouver alongside other provincial stakeholders (including Kerry Pridmore, BC ADM Trade and Industry Development; Jarrett Hutchinson, BC Executive Director Office of Mass Timber Implementation; Rosabelle Doyle, BC Senior Manager of Global Markets Europe - Trade & Industry Development Division, BC Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development & Innovation (JEDI); Rupert Potter, BC Managing Director, Trade and Investment Representative Office, Europe; and Graham Hilton, BC Trade and Investment Specialist, Europe) at Woodrise 2023 in Bordeaux, France.

What is Woodrise

Woodrise is a global mass-timber conference focused on the use of wood in construction as a sustainable building practice. The bi-annual conference fosters the exchange of information to discuss the challenges of wood construction and its opportunity to integrate into the concept of sustainable cities.

Mass Timber in British Columbia

Mass timber is a clean building technology made by joining layers of smaller dimension wood to create structural building parts akin to the strength of concrete and steel. The use of this low carbon building process has the potential to significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions from construction, replace more carbon-intensive materials, and reduce construction waste (BC Mass Timber Action Plan, 2022).

At the forefront of this sector, BC is leading the country in wood and mass timber construction. With abundant natural resources and progressive support for mass timber research, Vancouver is a centre for timber-design and expertise.
