On November 14, MIND Partnership hosted a networking event for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Vancouver Section at Rogers Arena, where guests had the opportunity to watch the Vancouver Canucks take on the Dallas Stars. Attendees included section executives such as Bob Gill, Chris Scholefield, Lee Vishloff, Matthew Wilder, Mike Paraskake, and Steven McClain, amongst others.

Also in attendance was Andrew Goertzen, an associate professor at the University of Manitoba, and his co-chair, Vesna Sossi, a professor at the University of British Columbia, who will be hosting the 2023 NSS MIC IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference in Vancouver.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology, and Vancouver is fortunate to have such an active and engaged local section.  The IEEE Vancouver Section “promotes the exchange of technical information and awareness of the local engineering community.”  They do this by:

  • Hosting technical presentations and seminars

  • Organizing tours of local companies, research labs and industrial sites

  • Arranging for local support and participation in engineering conferences held in Vancouver

  • Recognizing local members through service awards

  • Arranging for industry support of projects organized by IEEE student branches (UBC Branch, BCIT Branch, SFU Branch, UBC Okanagan Branch, UNBC Branch, KPU Branch)

  • Organizing events

In 2019, Vancouver hosted 20 IEEE meetings including the International Conference on Automation Science & Engineering (CASE), Magnet Technology Conference (MT-26), Symposium on Visualization for Cyber Security (VizSec), Annual Information Technology, Electronics and Mobile Communication Conference (IEMCON), and the Visualization Conference (VIS).

It was an incredible night celebrating these individuals’ tremendous efforts and involvement in various projects.  A huge thank you to the IEEE Vancouver Section!
