Celebrating World Cities Day and the #PowerofAlliance
World Cities Day celebrates urbanized communities internationally. It is meant to promote opportunities, address challenges and encourage cooperation among countries and cities alike. ‘Better City, Better Life’ is the general theme for October 31, 2018 with a focus on ‘Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities’ as a sub-theme.
All cities need support in achieving resiliency and in developing their capacity to absorb the impact of shocks and stresses. A cities resilience is about making a sustainable life through the good and the bad while being able to tend to all citizen needs before, during and after any type of social or hazardous crisis.
Vancouver is one of four major Canadian cities that were selected to be a part of the 100 Resilient Cities project (100RC)-- pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation. 100RC is a commitment dedicated to helping cities around the world become more resilient to physical, social and economic challenges.
As a major global city, Vancouver saw the importance of this and set out a 3 phase plan to better their resilience and overall adaptability.
Vancouver is proud to hold these values true when it comes to our meeting and conventions industry. We’re part of a global alliance known as BestCities, a network of 12 premier meeting destinations that focus on meaningful impact through a global network of industry experts.
BestCities facilitates and inspires global collaboration across the partner cities, encouraging knowledge sharing and pushing the boundaries to help build sustainable and resilient cities.
